Roger Ewing (born January 12, 1942) was the actor who played Deputy U.S. Marshall Thad Greenwood, a sidekick of Matt Dillon, in seasons 11-12 of Gunsmoke. Roger also made a notable appearance on the ABC-TV sitcom series Bewitched as jealous boyfriend Marvin Grogan ("Monster") in the first season episode, The Girl Reporter (1964), which was his first television credit.

Biography[]

Born in Los Angeles, California, Roger's acting career entailed several guest shots on television shows, sitcoms and movies, but he is best known for his role of a part-time deputy marshal and handy man, Clayton Thaddeus "Thad" Greenwood in thirty-six episodes (1965-1967) of the popular television western series, "Gunsmoke". After he left "Gunsmoke", he played in two movies: as Donald Maxwell in the western film Smith (1969) starring Glenn Ford, and as Nelson in the movie Play It as It Lays (1972) starring Tuesday Weld and Anthony Perkins. He then decided to call it quits for his acting career and pursued his other passion in the field of photography.

Roger is retired and currently lives in Morro Bay, California, where he is active in local politics.
